Skills, not jobs
[posted w: Tom Paxton’s ‘what did you learn in school today?’]
Skills not jobs! Skills make you interesting, jobs make you dull. Tasks are performed by skills, jobs are when tasks are performed in context & in sequence. That’s what you typically get paid for. So they may hire you for your degree or last title, but they keep you for your skills and reward you for your ability to complete tasks. They may even promote you if you can learn more.
So many teens are terrified their life is over when most haven’t taken a step out into the adult world.
Young person: ‘I didn’t get into Harvard. My life is already ruined.’
Me: ‘Why would you want to go to Harvard?’
Young person: ‘I dunno, I want to be rich.’
Srsly, who brain washed our kids?
I read on the internet somewhere: ‘Money doesn’t buy happiness.’
I say: ‘Money isn’t real, it’s just trust’ (and a replacement for empathy perhaps).
Dad says: ‘But it can buy really nice scotch!’
I also read on the internet somewhere: ‘Happiness isn’t a destination, it’s an algebra equation,’ but I’m happy & I can’t do basic math!
Don’t believe everything you see on the internet, ppl! Truthfully, we all need to hone the skill of identifying propaganda bc it’s coming in fast & hard. Two World Wars were enough!
